By the end of Year 10, students evaluate how text structures can be used in innovative ways by different authors. They explain how the choice of language features, images and vocabulary contributes to the development of individual style. They develop and justify their own interpretations of texts. They evaluate other interpretations, analysing the evidence used to support them. They listen for the ways features within texts can be manipulated to achieve particular effects. They demonstrate their understanding of grammar, vary vocabulary choices for impact and accurately use spelling and punctuation when creating and editing texts.

Students taking Creative Writing will undertake an in-depth study of various genres, including fantasy, sci-fi, history, mystery, script writing and poetry. They will create a range of texts and focus on the craft of writing. Students will need to have a keen interest in writing and a familiarity with word processing tools would be an advantage. This subject will cover content from the Victorian Curriculum strands of ‘Reading and Viewing’ and ‘Writing.’
